Ratargul is a tourist place in Sylhet district of Bangladesh. It was declared a Wildlife Sanctuary in 1973 and a Special Biodiversity Conservation Area in 2015. Murdabapati tree is known as Rata tree in the local language of Sylhet. According to the name of this rata tree, this forest is called Ratargul Jalaban. Carpus trees grow here the most. During the monsoons this forest is submerged under 20 to 30 feet of water. The rest of the year the water level is about 20 feet. So far, a total of 73 species of plants have been found here. Tourists flock here at different times, especially during the monsoon season, to see the forest trees standing submerged in water. A boat is needed to travel inside the forest. But they must be canoes. The famous local food is the modern Polao and Satkara. Besides, local pineapple, orange, betel nut, lemon and jackfruit are also famous. There are also tea leaves. Haor area is rich in fish and farm based duck rearing. There are usually delicious meals available at the local hotel restaurants for daily meals.
